Sailfish

Sailfish Sailfish A sailfish is a fish of the genus Istiophorus of billfish living in colder areas of all Earth's seas, which holds the record for the fastest speed of any of Earth's marine animals. They are predominantly blue to gray in colour and have a characteristic dorsal fin known as a sail, which often stretches the entire length of the back. Another notable characteristic is the elongated bill, resembling that of the swordfish and other marlins. They are, therefore, described as billfish in sport-fishing circles. Species Two sailfish species have been recognized. No differences have been found in mtDNA, morphometrics or meristics between the two supposed species and most authorities now only recognize a single species, (Istiophorus platypterus), found in warmer oceans around the world.FishBase continues to recognize two species: Atlantic sailfish (I. albicans). Indo-Pacific sailfish (I. platypterus). Unique Traits They are blue to gray in color with white underbel...

Clown fish or Anemonefish

Clown fish Clown fish or Anemonefish Clownfish or anemonefish are fishes from the subfamily Amphiprioninae in the family Pomacentridae. Thirty species are recognized: one in the genus Premnas, while the remaining are in the genus Amphiprion. In the wild, they all form symbiotic mutualisms with sea anemones. Depending on species, anemonefish are overall yellow, orange, or a reddish or blackish color, and many show white bars or patches. The largest can reach a length of 17 cm (6+1⁄2 in), while the smallest barely achieve 7–8 cm (2+3⁄4–3+1⁄4 in). Characteristics Bright orange with three distinctive white bars, clown anemonefish are among the most recognizable of all reef-dwellers. They reach about 4.3 inches in length, and are named for the multicolored sea anemone in which they make their homes. Relationship with Anemones Clownfish perform an elaborate dance with an anemone before taking up residence, gently touching its tentacles with different parts of their bodies until they ar...
